Nicki relates her unusual experiences with humor and with a commitment that melted my heart and made me wish I’d known her when I was in seventh grade. Part coming of age tale and part spy thriller, Greetings from Witness Protection could be a collaboration between Judy Blume and Ian Fleming. "synopsis" may belong to another edition of this title.Īn Autumn 2017 Kids’ Indie Next List Selection Jake Burt's debut middle-grade novel Greetings from Witness Protection! is as funny as it is poignant. As she barely balances the responsibilities of her new identity, Nicki learns that the biggest threats to her family’s security might not lurk on the road from New York to North Carolina, but rather in her own past. Nicki swears she can keep the Trevor family safe, but to do so she’ll have to dodge hitmen, cyberbullies, and the specter of standardized testing, all while maintaining her marshal-mandated B-minus average. After all, the bad guys are searching for a family with one kid, not two, and adding a streetwise girl who knows a little something about hiding things may be just what the marshals need. The marshals are looking for the perfect girl to join a mother, father, and son on the run from the nation’s most notorious criminals. Marshals’ best bet to keep a family alive. This is suitable for young readers one violent scene does enough damage to validate WITSEC’s caution, but maintains the quirky humor of the rest of the book, and the danger is quickly over.Nicki Demere is an orphan and a pickpocket. The fear of having their identities revealed, and the difficulties of a new home and new family make the pages fly by. One hilarious way Nicki works to remain unnoticed is by earning a B- average she does her math homework, then erases a careful percentage, and figures out how she could make errors in her work so her grades aren’t too high. They settle in North Carolina, where they are instructed to be average and moderate in everything so as to not attract attention. So she changes her name, and meets her new mom, dad, and little brother, and they train for weeks. The family of a witness they hope to protect will be more difficult to find if she joins them. Nicki is a snarky preteen foster kid, hoping her father will get out of prison and reclaim her, when US Marshals show up and make her a counter offer. I sometimes laughed so hard I had to put the book down. I am so glad this book was recommended to me. To everyone who enjoyed it a lot more than I did, I’m happy!!! I wish What happened was the rushing, and I was just very underwhelmed overall, which I’m sad about! There’s no way this book and be properly finished” because either it would be a really rushed finish or leave it with loose ends (which I would’ve preferred). And, at the end, things did start to get better, but I noticed I had like 30 pages left and my thought was “oh no…. If this was the first book of a series, my rating would be different.

I do like charlotte a lot, but I just feel like the middle of the book got so slow… very descriptive, but also I could only picture the descriptions as cartoons for some reason? It all felt very unreal, just not in a “whaaaaaat” way but in a “this doesn’t really add up” way. The beginning of the book got me super excited about it, I just imagined all these possible adventures and expected an action and excitement packed book, because I loved the concept!! Well, that was not what I got. The book overall is entertaining even though the middle felt a little slower to me. It was interesting for me to see the reviews and scores after reading this book.
